QUEZON CITY – The Lawyers for Commuters Safety and Protection (LCSP) condemned the “illegal, arbitrary and unjustified arrest” of their member Atty. Noel Valerio, last Friday at the National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI).
Heeding to a request of his client for assistance due to an impending demolition, Atty. Valerio went to the NKTI to ensure that the legal process is followed, which is, according to LCSP Founder and President Atty. Ariel Inton, a part of his oath as a lawyer.
“There is no need for the police to use unnecessary force against him, considering his age, health and obviously, being outnumbered,” Atty. Inton told iOrbit News in phone interview.
The Quezon City police said Valerio tried to stop the authorities and allegedly ordered the illegal occupants to stay inside their homes while the demolition is ongoing.
Inton added that the authorities should be reminded that lawyers has for their weapon their legal know how, and for them to subject Atty. Valerio “to any form of violence is not only an attack to his person, but to the whole legal profession. “
“We call our fellow lawyers to condemn this dastardly act towards a companyero by state forces which is slowly becoming a norm in our country,” Atty. Inton said.
