Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar stressed the importance of legacy communications to highlight the various gains of the Duterte administration.
In a radio interview, Andanar said it is important to establish protocols and standards of legacy communications in every administration so that the people will know the different accomplishments of the government and what projects they can benefit from and identify with.
“We are providing the people with a medium by featuring how grassroots communities benefit from the Duterte legacies in their daily lives. This is important to solidify the narrative that change has indeed come not only from the words of the government officials, but from the public themselves,” he said.
The PCOO chief added that communicating the legacy of the current administration will provide the people with a measure or benchmark of what to look out for in choosing the next set of leaders for the country.
“It is important to inform everybody what are the achievements of the present administration that should be pursued by the next administration. When people are armed with the correct information, they will be guided in choosing leaders who can deliver beyond, or at least equate, what the present government has delivered in making the life of Filipinos more comfortable,” he said.
With this, Andanar said the role of government officials and communicators is to make sure that the lives of the people today are better than the lives of the people before them.
“Our [government] responsibility is to ensure that the entire government is in place so that the lives of the people will be even better tomorrow, and so that those who will run the nation in the future will have enough tools and a nice environment for them to improve people’s lives,” he said.
He urged government officials to target perfection and do their best to make the lives of the next generation better.
Meanwhile, he also urged the public to help the President in his remaining months in office, especially that the pandemic has crippled the world economy.
“The support and cooperation of the public is crucial to be able to fight all the problems that resulted from the pandemic like economic collapse, unemployment, and foreign debts, among others. It is important that we prepare the country for the post pandemic era so that the next President can speed up the economy and ready the Philippine market for the global competition,” he said.
