CITY of SAN FERNANDO — Outgoing Bacolor Mayor Jose Maria Hizon fIled on Tuesday filed his certificate of candidacy, vying for the gubernatorial seat of Pampanga in the May midterm elections against incumbent Vice Governor Dennis Pineda.
Though lacking in political machinery compared to Pineda, Hizon said he decided to run in next year’s polls to give the people of Pampanga an alternative.
“I don’t have a well-oiled machinery compared to Pineda but I’m banking on the people’s decision,” said Hizon during a press conference held at his residence in Saint Dominic Subdivision, Barangay Dolores here Tuesday.
His decision, Hizon said is supported by members of the family.
“Before I reached this decision, I saw to it that my parents and siblings are with me,” he said.
Hizon’s parents, Apung Jun and Apung Lolet, and some of his siblings were present during the press conference. They accompanied him to the Commission on Elections office where he filed his CoC.
With Hizon’s filing of CoC, Vice governor Pineda will be facing a tough opponent comes the May 2019 polls, said a political observer who declined to be named.
“This will be a fight between two giants in the local political arena in Pampanga. Let’s wait and see who’s who in Pampanga,” another political observer told reporters on the sidelines of Hizon’s filing of candidacy.
Other members of the Hizon family who are vying elective positions are Derick, who is eyeing the Bacolor town mayoralty post; Angie, current councilor of City of San Fernando who is vying for the city’s vice mayoralty post; and Ricky, for Board Member of the province’s third district.
