A total of 989 honor students from all public and private schools in the City of San Fernando were recognized during the 2018 Mayor’s Academic Excellence Awarding Ceremony held April 26 at Walter Mart.
Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago led the awarding of Certificates to the students, accompanied by their parents or guardians. He was also joined by Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, Councilor Harvey Quiwa, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Imelda Macaspac, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ronnie Mallari, School Governance and Operations Division Chief Dr. Fernandina Otchengco, Curriculum Implementation Division Chief and Association of Private Schools President Edwina Arceo.

The awardees are Grade 6 completers with academic achievements such as With Honors, With High Honors and With Highest Honors in their respective schools.
Each of them also received cash incentives from the local government.
In his speech, Mayor EdSa congratulated both the students and their parents for their collaborative efforts towards a successful academic journey.
“Today we are honoring you and the people behind and before you—your parents. Learning is a lifelong process, may you continue to live up the ideals of a Fernandino with integrity as you reach the pinnacle of your dreams,” he added.
The city mayor stressed the local government’s initiatives to equip the Fernandino youth with quality education beginning in the Early Childhood Care and Development stage up to the Tertiary level.
Meanwhile, the awarding ceremony, initiated by the local government through its City Schools Division, marked its third year this 2018.
