Mayor Lazatin will highlight how Angeles City handled challenges of 2020 in State of the City Address

IT’S BEEN quite a year for Angeles City and the rest of the globe. It has endured a pandemic, which has impacted its biggest industry: Tourism.

City Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ G. Lazatin Jr is set to deliver his third State of the City Address (SOCA) on 30 June 2021, Wednesday, at 3:00 PM before members of the Angeles City Council as he highlights the city government’s efforts, its continuity programs and recovery plans moving forward.

Lazatin is expected to update the public on how the city moved forward in the last 12 months and what lies ahead.

His remarks are going to be broadcast live from the City Council Legislative Building via City Information Office Facebook Page, and simulcast over GV 99.1FM, Brigada News 92.7 FM, DWRW 95.1 FM and iOrbitNews online.

This year’s audience is also largely remote, with only a select few allowed to attend the SOCA in-person due to COVID guidelines. Lazatin is also expected to give his address detailing how the city and the Angeleños have shown how to improvise, adapt and overcome.

The mayor’s outlook on 2021 will continue with a focus on priorities set forth in June 2020, which includes:

  1. Ramping up the COVID-19 vaccination program and major health services;
  2. Revitalizing educational support to online learners and teachers;
  3. Harnessing growth for the good of all residents
  4. Leading the way on environmental stewardship and resiliency
  5. Creating equitable and inclusive job opportunities within all of the city’s communities
  6. Reinvigorating social services for senior citizens, solo parents, and the poorest of the poor.
    These six major pillars have renewed importance and urgency as the city evolves through socio-economic reckoning and recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While 2020 proved to be far more challenging than anyone could have ever anticipated, I must congratulate and give recognition to the progress and sterling performance carried out by the city government and the health crisis management skills of the incredible COVID19 Working Committee spearheaded by Chief Adviser and Tactician IC Calaguas.

Based on Mayor Lazatin’s dependable, reliable, constant and unwavering leadership, the city will not slow down in 2021 and will continue to build where it counts for all its residents.

Though the city was required to pivot in many ways last year, key successes were achieved, which Lazatin will highlight in his address.

His remarks will also include a look at new goals and initiatives aimed at helping everyone in Angeles City thrive.
