The NLEX Corporation today said it has started the drainage enhancement works at the Balintawak Cloverleaf toaddress the occasional flooding in the area and augment the existing flood control project which the tollway company completed in 2016.
The drainage enhancement works, which will last until August this year, include the construction of a covered concrete lined ditch alongside the existing drainage system to mitigate flooding along the NLEX roadway.
Motorists are advised of the following temporary road closure schedule at the Balintawak Cloverleaf area to enable them to plan their trips appropriately.
Preparatory works such as manual test pitting, cutting of concrete pavement will run from July 1 to 7.
From July 8 to July 19, the Balintawak Cloverleaf southwest ramp going to A. Bonifacio Avenue from EDSA-Monumento will be closed from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am.
During this scheduled closure, motorists are advised to take the following alternate routes:
· From Monumento to A. Bonifacio Avenue: Route 1 – Take Biglang Awa Street, turn left at 11th Avenue East, and turn right at A. Bonifacio Avenue.
· From Monumento to A. Bonifacio Avenue: Route 2 – Take the ramp going to NLEX northbound, turn right at the ramp going to Monumento and enter the Balintawak Cloverleaf ramp going to A. Bonifacio.
From July 20to August 9, the Balintawak Cloverleaf southwest ramp going to EDSA-Cubao and the rightmost lane going to A. Bonifacio Avenue will be closed from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am. Three lanes will remain open for motorists traveling toward A. Bonifacio Avenue while thoseheading to EDSA-Cubaofrom NLEX/Quirino (West Service Road)may take the following alternate routes:
· From NLEX/Quirino (West Service Road) to Cubao: Route 1 – Take the Monumento ramp, and make a U-turn at Biglang Awa (in front of Mitsubishi) to go to EDSA-Cubao
· From NLEX/Quirino (West Service Road) to Cubao: Route 2 – Head south toward A. Bonifacio Avenue, make a U-turn at Marvex Drive and take the ramp to EDSA-Cubao.
Meanwhile, the rightmost lane of the Balintawak Cloverleaf southwest ramp going to EDSA-Cubao from NLEX/Quirino (West Service Road) will be closed from July 12to August 10. Two lanes will be passable for motorists bound for EDSA-Cubao.
The NLEX Corporation also assures motorists that a traffic management plan is in place with the deployment of patrol and traffic teams around the work area. This is implemented in cooperation with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and local traffic officials.
