Pampanga appeals for MECQ

City of San Fernando, PAMPANGA– Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda appealed to Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and Department of Health (DOH) to reconsider putting the province into  Moderate Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) instead of General Community Quarantine come May 16.

It is a majority decision after a consensus of 22 mayors from 19 municipalities and 3 cities on May 13 at the Provincial Capitol.

IATF Resolution No. 35 released on Tuesday tagged Pampanga to put under GCQ starting May 16 to 31 but the governor said the province is not yet ready for this.

“We need to prepare our constituent. Hindi po pwede na by 16 maglalabasan nalang po kaagad” Gov. Pineda said.

Pineda stressed that all person authorized outside must secure a pass be given by municipal or city offices starting tomorrow (May 14).

“ By tomorrow magoopen na lahat ng munisipyo to secure pass para sa mga workers natin” said Pineda.

The governor calls for compliance of the following requirements for the release of passes ; identification cards, barangay clearance and certification of employment.

The governor believes that MECQ will help in preparing people to the new norm

“The MECQ will give us enough time to prepare workers in the manufacturing, construction and other exonomic sectora mentioned in IATF Resolution No. 35,” Pineda concludes.

“MECQ would also give time to local health authorities to assess results of mass testing and for the LTFRB to establish allowed transport route” he added.

To date, The Pampanga Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) reports 934 suspected cases with 284 admitted and 78 discharged.  51 already recovered among 79 confirmed cases affected by coronavirus disease.
