‘Peaceful elections in CL, a product of great planning’—COMELEC

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The peaceful and orderly conduct of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in Central Luzon is a product of great planning.

“All actions of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) were in sync,” COMELEC Regional Director Temie Lambino said in a press briefing Tuesday.

“By the book, if you would compare our security plan to what the PNP and AFP have done, I would say that 100 percent, we executed the plan that we crafted,” he stressed.

COMELEC, PNP and AFP conducted more than 300 meetings, seminars and conferences for the preparation of the security plans and deployment plans during the election period.

“We know the areas that need additional security or the presence of the PNP and AFP,” he shared.

For his part, Police Regional Director PCSupt. Amador Corpus said the overall security preparations in the region was very successful as there is no election related violent incident that transpired during the actual conduct of elections.

This can be attributed to adequate police presence and the deployment of quick response teams by AFP whenever necessary.

As part of executing their plan, Corpus directed all units under his command to see to it that security will be ensured especially in checkpoints until all accountable election-related forms are back to their respective destinations.

“We have also instructed our Provincial Directors to talk to the local chief executives not to meddle with the barangay elections in order to prevent intensified political rivalry especially in hotspot areas,” he furthered.

With this, Lambino said Central Luzon should be the standard of the entire country in the conduct of a peaceful and orderly elections, both in the administrative and operational preparations. (PIA 3)
