Government officials and business executives have announced the production of another volume of a coffee table book that records historical facts and recovery efforts from the most powerful volcanic eruption in recent history.
Levy P. Laus, chairman of the Mt. Pinatubo Executive Committee, said that the coffee table book titled “Pinatubo: Triumph of the Kapampangan Spirit” will be updated in a new volume. Laus made the announcement as Pampanga prepares for the 25th anniversary of Pinatubo’s eruption this week.
Mt. Pinatubo erupted on June 12, 1991. Pampanga turned black with ash and other debris on June 15 when a typhoon struck Central Luzon.
Together with Gov. Lilia G. Pineda, Laus announced in a press conference that the book, first produced in 2006, should have more accounts on Pampanga’s total recovery.
“The book was produced several years ago and many developments had taken place to show that indeed Pampanga has already and fully recovered since then,” Laus said.
The 280-page book was published by San Fernando Heritage Foundation with editorial support from Pampanga’s prolific writers, photographers and artists. It was edited by veteran newspaperman and writer Bong Z. Lacson.
During its formal launching, former President Fidel V. Ramos served as guest of honor. The book tackled destruction, recovery, restoration of Pampanga.
