Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol has reiterated the need for planting high value crops to generate income for farmers, during the 1st regional Kakao Konek Congress held in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
Piñol, in his speech, said the solution to the problem of agriculture is to “go back to the basics.”
He said this strategy is focused on staple food production for food security and addressing poverty by planting high value crops, which is Kakao, to generate income for the farmers.
Piñol said the national government’s initiative to promote cacao crops would alleviate poverty situation of the farmers.
During the event, Piñol led the oathtaking of new cacao growers in Central Luzon.
Along with Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda, Piñol also distributed the coconut seedlings to farmers in the region.
Last June 23, 2016, the Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) and the Alyansa Agrikultura (AA) gave a presentation to the Regional Development Council (RDC) of Region 3.
