BALANGA CITY — About 300 motorcycle riders attended Wednesday the launch in Bataan of the Clean Rider campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
It is a campaign that aims to eliminate criminal activities perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects (MRS).
“At first, the objective was to prevent motorcycle-riding crimes but now, we want to completely eliminate it. This campaign really underscores the total elimination of crimes committed by motorcycle riding suspects and ensure safety and security of motorcycle riders,” Police Provincial Director PSSupt. Marcelo Dayag said.
PNP recorded a total of 88 shooting incidents perpetrated by MRS in Central Luzon from October 2017 to June 2018.
Moreover, about 295 cases of stolen motorcycles in the region were reported from January to June 2018.
“This is a stern move of the PNP to protect the Filipino people and to dismantle organized groups and those motorcycle-riding suspects,” Dayag furthered.
Participating riders were given free Clean Rider stickers which will serve as a proof that their motorcycles are now registered with the PNP.
“We encourage riders to get the stickers for free by applying at police stations in their city or municipality,” Dayag said.
Requirements include official receipt and certificate of registration of the motorcycle, driver’s license and other valid identification cards.
Before issuing a sticker, PNP will verify the motorcycle and the rider first if there is an existing violation and possible record of involvement in criminal activities.
The sticker holds security features which police officers can verify using a smartphone application that can reveal details and information about the rider and the motorcycle.
A similar activity was also held in other provinces and cities nationwide.
