Porac town under state of calamity due to COVID-19

The town of Porac, Pampanga was placed under a statement of calamity on Monday after it recently reported its first case of COVID-19.

The 33-year-old male is a driver of Grab plying the route in Clark Freeport Zone and the rest of Pampanga province. Grab Philippines earlier said it was coordinating with the DOH and LGUs for the conduct of contact tracing.

The driver’s family members are now being monitored for symptoms of the coronavirus.

Under the law, local government units may have access to additional funds should their jurisdiction be placed under a state of calamity. President Rodrigo Duterte had earlier put the country under a state of public health emergency due to the continuous spread of the virus. There are currently 140 cases of COVID-19 in the country, including 12 fatalities, while 2 have recovered.
