Subic, Zambales—Electricity distribution providers of Zambales and Olongapo City are set to implement a Php2.00 to Php4.00 per kilowatt-hour (kwh) electricity bill reduction for consumers after a meeting with the officials of electric cooperatives, private power distributors, and a power producer led by Zambales 1st District Rep. Jefferson Khonghun this morning, Saturday, September 10.
According to Khonghun, after the meeting, Zambales Electric Cooperative (Zameco-I) agreed with Zambales Electric Cooperative (Zameco-II) and the Olongapo Electricity Distribution Company (OEDC) to lower their respective electricity bills charged to their consumers.
In such a meeting, the minimum rate that Zameco I can lower is PHP 2.00 per kilowatt-hour (kwh), while Zameco II will reduce it to PHP 4.00/kwh.
Included in Zameco I are the towns of Botolan, Iba, Palauig, Masinloc, Candelaria, and Sta. Zameco II covers the municipalities of Subic, Castillejos, San Marcelino, San Antonio, San Narciso, San Felipe, and Cabangan in Zambales province.
In the city of Olongapo, served by the Olongapo Electricity Distribution Co. (OEDC), the said company will lower Php2.00/kwh for consumers.
Khonghun further said that it was agreed in the meeting that such a roll-back in the consumption charge is expected to be long-term as agreed upon.
“This is a long-term basis.” emphasized the congressman.
The lawmaker added that even though a meeting has already taken place between the two electric cooperatives, the private distributor and the power producer, they are still scheduled to be summoned for a hearing in Congress.
Khonghun further informed that those who attended the said meeting this Saturday were General Manager Engr. President Isagani Yap of Zameco; President Reynaldo De Jesus and General Manager Romwil De Jesus of Zameco; President Jose Maria Abaya of OEDC; and General Manager Ellen Go of San Miguel Energy Corporation (SMEC).
