CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The provincial government encourages Kapampangans to make the most out of their quarantine time planting at home.
This as the Capitol started distributing about 45,000 certified seedlings in the different towns and cities.
Sangguniang Panlalawigan Agriculture Committee Chair Jun Canlas said it is high time to intensify the promotion of urban and backyard gardening to sustain initiative among Kapampangans beyond the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Home gardening is one of the things families can do to help the government address food sustainability and security while Enhanced Community Quarantine is imposed in Luzon,” he furthered.
Provincial Agriculturist Edilberto Salenga said seedlings will be turned over in the different Municipal and City Agriculture Offices (M/CAOs) over the week for faster distribution.

Each city and municipality will be given assorted seeds and planting materials of vegetables such as okra, petchay, hot Pepper (cindy gang), hot pepper (hot bird), eggplant, tomato, squash, and mustard through the High-Value Crops Development Program of the Department of Agriculture.
He advised interested households who are willing to plant during the quarantine period to request and claim seeds at their respective M/CAOs.
Seedlings are given as assistance to ensure that add-on support for safe, fresh and quality crops may be served right from the backyard unto the tables of each household.
He encouraged Kapampangans to avail of the program as a simple way to help the province in securing food availability in the wake of the health crisis brought by COVID-19.
Salenga assured beneficiaries that planting space is not an issue because seedlings can be planted even on empty containers.
