PSA: Local economic recovery seen in Bataan

PILAR, Bataan — Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Bataan sees recovery of the local economy, based on results of the 2021 List of Establishments (LE) survey.

About 10,683 listed establishments are currently operating in the province.

PSA Bataan Chief Statistical Specialist Francisco Corpuz disclosed that major economic sectors that contribute to the recovery of the province are services with 9,090 establishments, industry with 1,478 establishments, and agriculture with 114 establishments. They employ approximately 84,237 individuals.

Bataan contributes to 10 percent of total employment and number of establishments in Central Luzon.

Meanwhile, top three industry sections in the province with the most number of LE are wholesale and retail trade, and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 48.9%; accommodation and food services with 13.1%; and manufacturing with 13%.

Moreover, the three industry sections in Bataan with the most employment are manufacturing with 40.8%; wholesale and retail trade, and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 22%; and accommodation and food services with 7.2%.

“The survey and the results were conducted during the pandemic and we can say that the vibrancy in the economy is starting to return and it is not only seen in Bataan but also on a national level,” Corpuz furthered.

He cited the opening of in person classes in the province as one factor that will help boost local economy and recover from the losses incurred during the pandemic as there will be demand for school supplies and transportation.
