Rains submerge 40 villages in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — A total of 40 villages mostly in Pampanga’s 2nd and 4th districts are submerged in floodwaters of varying degrees brought about by southwest monsoon rains in the past two days, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported Tuesday.

Angie Blanco, PDRRMO executive officer, however, said no evacuation efforts were conducted as the water level remains tolerable as of press time.

“Residents affected by flooding remain in their houses as flood water remains tolerable,” said Blanco.

In her report to Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda, Blanco said Macabebe and San Simon towns have the biggest number of villages flooded since Monday.: Macabebe – 15 villages; San Simon – 11 communities; Masantol – 8 and Sasmuan and Lubao , 3 each.

Blanco said classes in wide areas in Pampanga were suspended due to prevailing inclement weather.

The PDRRMO also reported that two communities in Porac town were isolated due to soil erosion. The roads leading to Barangays Camias and Sapang Uwak were rendered impassable for any kind of vehicles. The two villages are occupied by Aeta natives.

Blanco said the PDRRMO has prepositioned disaster-response equipment including manpower, ready to be mobilized in the event of an evacuation.

Tropical storm Egay has weakened into a Low Pressure Area but monsoon rains are not yet over, said Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA).
