Sacred Heart Medical Center (SHMC) bolstered its diagnostic capabilities on Thursday, April 9, with the dual inauguration of its Advanced MRI Unit and an upgraded Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Center.
The launch, themed “A Clearer View of Care Begins Here,” marks a strategic expansion for the Angeles-based institution as it seeks to capture a larger share of the specialized healthcare market in Central Luzon. By pairing high-resolution imaging with a dedicated head and neck facility, the hospital is positioning itself as a primary hub for complex diagnostics outside of Metro Manila.

The new MRI suite introduces advanced imaging protocols designed to improve the detection of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. According to hospital officials, the unit focuses on high-resolution output, which is critical for early-stage diagnosis and surgical planning.

Complementing the upgrade is the enhanced ENT Center, which will manage a broad spectrum of disorders ranging from hearing loss to respiratory and head-and-neck pathologies. The integration of these two units is intended to create a seamless diagnostic pathway for patients requiring multidisciplinary care.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, SHMC management emphasized that the technological upgrade would not come at the expense of affordability.
”Today is more than a launch—it is a step forward in how we care for our patients,” said Dr. Nenita Tan-Canlas, President and CEO of Sacred Heart Medical Center. She noted that the investment is aimed at making precise diagnostics “abot-kaya” (affordable) for Kapampangans and residents of neighboring provinces.
“Clarity in care is about helping patients understand their condition and make informed decisions,” Dr. Tan-Canlas said. “We bring together precision and compassion—true to our promise of Alagang Galing sa Puso.”

The expansion arrives as healthcare providers in Central Luzon face increasing pressure to modernize facilities to meet the needs of a growing population. By localized advanced imaging, SHMC aims to reduce the “diagnostic lag” often caused by the need for patients to travel to the capital for specialized scans.
The new units are now fully operational. For inquiries or clinical appointments, the public may contact the medical center at 0917-524-5101 or (045) 624-5607.
