SM Supermalls across the Philippines join the rest of the country in commemorating National Flag Day on May 28, 2023 through simultaneous flag-raising and salute to the national emblem, the Flag.
Being one with the public sector in promoting awareness on the country’s symbol of independence, SM City Olongapo Central and SM City Olongapo Downtown and 81 malls of SM shopping center chain led the flag-raising ceremony which was attended by mall officers, SM affiliates employees, representatives of mall’s agency personnel and mall security force.
The mall common areas are also decorated with the colors of the flag, blue, red, white and yellow to remind the mallgoers of love for the country.
SM malls in Olongapo, Pampanga, Tarlac, Cabanatuan, Cauayan, Tuguegarao, Pangasinan, Baguio and Bulacan also gears up next for the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day on June 12.
Presidential Proclamation No.375, s.1965 declares May 28 of each year as National Flag Day, meanwhile Executive Order No. 179, s.1994 encourages every Filipino to prominently display the Philippine Flag in all buildings, establishments, and homes from May 28 to June 12.
The flag remains as symbol of patriotism and nationalism in the Philippines. To remember, it was on May 28, 1898 that the Philippine Flag was first raised after the victory of Filipino revolutionaries against the Spanish troops in the Battle of Alapan.
