SM City Clark (SMCK) awarded local Kapampangan artists who were known for their contributions in various media.
Through its My City. My SM. My Art. project, SMCK awarded internationally-acclaimed director Brillante Mendoza; chef Claude Tayag; actress Ana Capri; painter Ronna Manansala; sculptor Herminigildo Pineda; artist NormanTiotuico; and photographer Borj Meneses.
The distribution of awards was led by SM Supermalls vice president for marketing and communications Millie Dizon.
Mabalacat City Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales also attended the event who thanked local artists for their art contributions.
Director Mendoza was awarded for his contributions in the international film industry. He was the first Asian honored with the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival for his film, “Kinatay.”
Mendoza, who has been regarded by the world’s top critics as an ultra-neo-realist, remains close to his Kapampangan roots.
Meanwhile, chef Tayag was awarded for his furniture designs and paintings. He started exhibiting his furniture designs in 1990 at the Ayala Museum.
Actress Ana Capri expresses her art on the big screen and on her canvasses. Although considered to be a newbie in the art scene, she was able to exhibit some of her artworks in the United Women Artists Association of the Philippines event on May 2016 at the Podium Manila.
Manansala, granddaughter of national artist Vicente Manansala, was awarded for her paintings that mainly projects the raw and pure character of a strong woman, depicting her grandmother, mother and herself. Her works silently speaks of the true beauty of a woman, calm, simple, strong and in touch with God.
Pineda, on the other hand, was awarded for his sculptures. His exceptional skills has earned him many awards and recognitions like the 3rd prize GSIS National Art Competition in 2016.
Meanwhile, Tiotuico was awarded for his “kulitan” contributions.
Tiotuico is a Kapampangan language and indigenous script (kulitan) advocate, whose love for his language is matched by his love for his art. And it is interesting to see how he merges both.
Meneses was awarded for his photography skills as he is now one of the highly-coveted portrait, beauty, glamour and food photographers in the country.
