Be counted and join the switch off as all SM Supermalls in Pampanga simultaneously observe Earth Hour 2017 on March 25 at SM Pampanga, San Fernando Downtown and Savemore Market Apalit.
Over the years, all 60 SM malls all over the Philippines; 7 malls in China, 5 SMDC Residences and the rest of the world annually take part with the leap to change climate change. With the synchronized switching off of lights at exactly 8:30 p.m. for one hour, the effort is about going beyond. After the lights go back, SM’s doesn’t stop there with the continuing efforts to help save the environment with activities like Tree Planting, Trash to Cash every first Friday and Saturday of the month and the continuous use of ECO-bags in shopping among others.
This year, join the Earth Hour celebration at SM City Pampanga as the iconic landmark, the Pampanga Eye — the tallest ferris wheel in the country – turns into a significant 60+ symbol as a call to climate change. While in SM San Fernando Downtown and SM Savemore Market Apalit, a graffiti of nature with the 60+ and panda logos using glow-in-the-dark paint and candles in 60+ shape respectively, will glow bright as the malls switch-off its lights for an hour and beyond.
Earth Hour started in 2007 at Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned off their lights off for one hour to take a stand against climate change. Only a year later, Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. In the Philippines, the movement to promote sustainable consumption spread to over 1,600 cities, town and villages pledged participation in 2010 and over 15 million Filipinos participated in the event.
