SM Tarlac joins 1st quarter NSED amidst pandemic

In participation to the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, SM City Tarlac conducts virtual earthquake drill on March 11 at exactly 2 p.m.

The NSED is quarterly activity of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) that seeks to educate the public on disaster preparedness against earthquakes and showcase the government’s capability on disaster response.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no evacuation drills and scenarios were conducted in compliance with the minimum public health measures. In SM Malls nationwide, employees participated inside the Administration Office while following physical distancing. Tenants and affiliates also performed duck, cover, and hold in their respective stores.

The virtual earthquake drill started with video showing the ceremonial pressing of the button accompanied by rumbling earthquake sounds which lasted for 45 seconds. A`ll mall admin employees performed the DUCK, COVER,  and HOLD position under sturdy tables, seats, and the likes as these are life-saving actions against earthquakes. The rumbling sound stopped to signal that the shaking and the drill has already ended.
