CAPAS, Tarlac -– House Committee on Veterans Affairs and Welfare Chairperson Leopoldo Bataoil lauded Monday the veterans for their heroic deeds and sacrifices for the country.
In his speech during the Paggunita sa Capas 2017 at the Capas National Shrine, he reminded everyone to keep in mind the contributions and efforts of the veterans who gallantly fought for sovereignty.
“This is not just a gathering of old people. This is the time to remember the importance of their [veterans] bravery,” Bataoil stressed.
He encouraged today’s generation to appreciate and honor those Filipino soldiers, who have died in subsequent conflicts in the performance of their mission to guarantee the nation’s safety and freedom.
In the end, the legislator invited everyone to stand and salute the obelisk as a sign of respect to the war veterans.
The obelisk at the center of the shrine symbolizes peace.
Its needle-like tower consists of three sections, which represents the Filipino, Japanese and American people in this modern age of global peace, who have learned the lessons of war.
The event was among the main activities of Philippine Veterans Week 2017 which carried the theme “Parangal sa mga Beterano tungo sa Bayan na nararapat sa Pilipino, mga Pilipino na nararapat sa Bayan.” (PIA 3)
