‘Stairway to Heaven’ is an original song written by the rock legend Led Zeppelin and was not culled out from a relatively unknown song from an equally unknown band.
This as an appeals court in the United States reinstated its ruling the rock band did not breach the copyright of the song “Taurus” of the Los Angeles-based band Spirit.
The 11-judge panel in San Francisco, California, had affirmed a 2016 judgement where it found no evidence the 1971 song “Stairway to Heaven” was partly copied from the Spirit’s “Taurus.”
The ruling was overturned by a three-judge panel in San Francisco two years ago. Led Zeppelin requested for a new trial by a larger panel, whose decision had been based on the 1909 Copyright Act, reaffirming the original ruling in favor of the UK-based rock band.
The British rock group testified in 2016 the chord sequence in question had “been around forever.”
