Villanueva lauds creation of Department of Migrant Workers

 “A life-changing New Year’s gift to OFWs.”

Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) Party-list Rep. and House Deputy Speaker Bro. Eddie Villanueva has lauded the signing into law of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Act on Thursday, Rizal Day.

In the House of Representatives, Deputy Speaker Villanueva was among the counterpart authors of his son, Sen. Joel Villanueva, who principally sponsored the measure in the Senate.

“OFWs’ severance from their families in the name of earning a decent livelihood for their spouses and children is a sacrifice that need not be aggravated by their exploitation. DMW will surely mitigate any abuse and protect our OFWs and their families,” said Villanueva.

“CIBAC has been fighting for OFW rights and welfare from the start.  Our constituency, which includes OFWs, rejoices over the creation of DMW. We join them and their families on this historic day,” Villanueva added.

“With Filipino migrant workers serving as a strong backbone of our fragile economy, the creation of DMW is a well-deserved New Year’s gift for OFWs and their families. We thank and glorify God for this victory.”
