Volcanic quakes in Taal continue

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded at least 14 volcanic earthquakes within Taal Volcano vicinity in the last 24 hours.

Weak steaming or fumarolic activity was observed from fissure vents along the Daang Kastila traill on Tuesday.

Taal Volcano remains at Alert Level 1 since March 19. Sudden stream-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquaks, minor ashfall and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas can occur and threaten areas within Taal Volcano.

Phivolcs advised the local government units around Taal lake to assess previously evacuated barangays for damages, road accessibilities and strengthen disaster preparedness in case of renewed unrest.
