Subic Bay Freeport – The Subic Bay Marine Exploratorium, Inc. – Camayan Beach Resort took a proactive step to preserve the pristine beauty of Subic Bay with an activity dubbed “Ecology Zone Shore Restoration,” coinciding with the celebration of the World Water Day on March 22 at the Camayan Beach area in Morong, Bataan.
In partnership with organizations such as Haring Ibon, Bird Finder Philippines, Wild Bird Photographers of the Philippines, PNP Special Action Force, Manila Times College, DepEd Olongapo City and DepEd Regional Science High School, the initiative aimed to restore and rejuvenate the beach area.
Over 100 volunteers enthusiastically participated the initiative that aims to address the bay’s ecological challenges.
The picturesque shores of Subic Bay have long been cherished by locals and tourists alike. However, despite the tireless efforts of the bay’s residents to maintain the cleanliness of its shores, the relentless forces of nature combined with human negligence have resulted in a significant threat.
Debris and trash from nearby communities as well as erosion and tree damage, have disfigured the once pristine landscape, making it difficult for residents to cope.
The project included various activities such as beach and shoreline clean-ups, under-water diving to dig up tires and plastic debris.
Volunteers, including representatives from partner organizations and local communities, worked tirelessly to clear the coasts of trash and debris. The success of project is a testament to the power of collective action in preserving the natural heritage.
