Yokohama Unions worry over threats, intimidation

Officers and members of the Alliance of Yokohama Employees (AYE) and Alliance of Yokohama Supervisors (AYS) are now worried of the threats and intimidation they are receiving allegedly from the Yokohama management.

According to the two labor unions, the company is allegedly selectively issuing memos and job transfers to identified union members which raised anxiety and tension.

Despite the alleged aggressive action by the management,

According to the AYE and AYS, they sought legal remedies to resolve the conflict, one of which was setting a dialogue between management and union officers, and filing cases in the National Conciliation and Mediation Board, a division of the Department of Labor and Employment.

But Yokomama VP for Operations Juanito Arona vehemently denied the accusations, saying all the management’s actions are within the bounds of their agreement.

“There is no truth to the allegations of the union. All our actions are within the CBA and there have been no violations,” Arona said.

“We feel betrayed by the union and its officers. We talk at least twice a month to resolve the issues. But now they’re singing a different tune,” Arona added.

But according to the union officers and members, they feel pressured by the management as a shakedown of security policies were intensified and additional CCTV cameras were installed.

Although during Labor Management Committee meetings, union officers and representatives from the top local management, headed by Angelina Casasola and Arona, both top local top honchos of the company, discuss different issues arising from the grievances.of the employees, the top management oftentimes turn a deaf ear to the pleadings of their employees.
