2 cops injured in Nueva Ecija ambush

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Two policemen suffered leg injuries when they jumped out of the military truck shortly after an ambush allegedly staged by communist rebels at Sitio Calvelo, Barangay Putlan, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija early morning Wednesday, police said.

Injured were PO3 Jose Ira Nimenzo and PO1 Rommel Gabia, both members of the Provincial Public Safety Company stationed in Cabanatuan City.

Sketchy police reports have it that Nimenzo and Gabia were part of the police and military troops who were responding to a shooting incident that was reported by a resident at Sitio Calvelo.

Senior Inspector Diego Montes, PPSC team leader and military troops from 48th Infantry Battalion were on board military truck heading to the place of incident when they faced volley of gunfire coming from western section of the Bgy. Putlan.

Firefight ensued but no report on casualties as of press time.

“Gunshots coming from the western section of Bgy. Putlan believed fired by communist rebels met the police and military troops,” stated in the sketchy police reports reaching this regional police headquarters.

Nimenzo and Gambia suffered fractured injuries when they jumped out of the military truck for cover after they heard series of gunfire, stated in the police report.

Reinforcement team was dispatched to the area to conduct pursuit operations against the rebels.
