20 arrested in Tarlac over poultry theft

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — A poultry owner loses millions of pesos from sales of his poultry due to alleged switching of live chickens – from large to small sizes – by unscrupulous dealers and contractors from Tarlac City.
Businessman Cesar Galang, 62, of no. 50., Barangay Capihan, San Rafael, Bulacan, sought the help of the  Regional Intelligence Division-Special Conern Unit (RID-SCU), when his accountant discovered huge loses in terms of payments.

Galang, who accompanied RID-SCU operatives during the surviellance at Bgy. San Manuel, Tarlac City, said he personally saw the switching of poultry being done inside the warehouse where live chickens are brought in and brought out for distributions to different markets in that province.

“Ipapasok ang truck na may karga na malalaking manok sa compound pagkatapos papalitan sa loob ng bodega ng maliliit. Ganito ang modus na ginagawa ng mga dealers na kumukuha sa aking farm,” said Galang over the phone.

This kind of modus operandi, Galang said existed in the past three to four months until my accountant discovered huge discrepancies in our financial standing.

Police Lt. Colonel Renante Pinuela, chief of RID-SCU stationed in this regional police headquarters, said operatives raided the warehouse where they found three truckloads of poultry cargo being replaced, a criminal offense under the law.

Penuela said most of the arrested persons are market vendors and live chicken meat retailers from Tarlac City while the rest are truck drivers and helpers.

RID-SCU operatives seized three truckloads of poultry with drivers and helpers and brought them to this police camp for further investigation. Penuela said charges of violation of the Anti-Fencing Law and Qualified Theft are being readied against the suspects.
