20 Tarlac centenarians receive P100k each

AT least 20 centenarians received P100,000 each from the Tarlac provincial government as part of the commitment to honor the senior
citizens who reached 100 years old.

The financial incentive to Tarlac was the brainchild of Vice Governor Carlito “Casada” David by authoring Provincial Ordinance No. 001-2016
passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan [SP] last year. The ordinance grants recognition and cash award to Tarlaqueño centenarians and
declaring the first Monday of October each year as “Centenarian Day” in Tarlac province.

The recognition, with a theme “Pagkilala sa Kakayahan, Ambag at Paglahok ng mga Nakakatanda sa Lipunan”, was done at the SM
City-Tarlac last October 2.

Aside from the 20 who were given P100,000 each, 26 Tarlaqueño centenarians each received P25,000, birthday card and a
birthday cake for celebrating their birthdays yet for another year.

The incentive for centenarians was aside from the P100,000 cash reward from the national government.

David, a senior citizen himself said that the provincial government loves the elderly as evidenced by the passing of the SP
ordinance.

“Mahal namin ang mga senior citizens kaya nga pinag-sumikapan namin na ipasa ang ordinansang ito para sa inyo,”
David said.

This year, a Search for Ulirang Nakatatanda 2017 was launched under three categories. Twelve were nominated for the education category, seven for entrepreneur category and 14 for agriculture category.

“I hope to see you all again next year and I pray that you live as long as possible,” the vice governor concluded.
