ANGELES CITY – Some 450 senior citizens here received their social pension from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) amounting to P2.7 million.
In coordination with Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr., the Angeles senior citizens will receive P6,000 each to augment basic and medical needs.
This is in accordance with the Social Pension program under Republic Act No. 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, which provides P500 monthly to indigent seniors.
As much as the DSWD wants to extend the implementation of Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC) Program for all, the budget is limited.
With this, the Mayor stressed his plan to allocate P10 million for the Senior Citizens’ social pension in 2020.
Moreover, Executive Asst. IV Reina Manuel, City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO), Gender and Development (GAD) Office, and Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) also assisted during the distribution. Apart from this, the beneficiaries also received their free flu vaccination, as part of the campaign of Mayor Lazatin and First District Rep. Carmelo ‘Jon’ Lazatin II to promote an immunized community.
