All roads lead to San Fernando, La Union for the most-awaited Sillag Poro Point Festival of Lights happening from April 6 to 8, 2018. The annual summer festival, which is now on its 7th year, is La Union’s counterpart to Baguio City’s Panagbenga and Clark Pampanga’s Hot Air Balloon Festival, attracting local and foreign tourists while promoting North Luzon as among the most-visited tourist destinations in the country.
The highlight of the Festival of Lights is on April 6 where a thousand lanterns will be released at Poro Point Baywalk to light up the night sky.
The festival kicked off on March 23 with pre-event activities, including a week-long trade and food bazaar featuring North Luzon’s local delicacies. Local bands will also hold a live performance at the Baywalk on the night of Easter Sunday, April 1st.
Exciting activities during the festival proper include Zumba by the Bay, Sunset Run for Hope, street dancing and lantern parade competition, airshow, and skydiving.
This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Poro Point Freeport Zone and the 15th anniversary of the Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC).
PPMC is a subsidiary of the state-owned Bases Conversion and Development Authority.
