QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Aboitiz Power Corporation, through GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD), was recognized at the 61st Anvil Awards for its Mangrove Adoption and Protection Program, a community-based environmental initiative implemented under the Provincial Government of Bataan’s Project Transform Baka1Bataan.

The program received the Silver Anvil Award in the PR Programs – Sustainability Communication category during the Gabi ng Parangal on January 28, 2026, at Solaire Resort North in Quezon City. The Anvil Awards, organized by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP), honor outstanding public relations programs that create meaningful impact.
“This recognition affirms that sustainability is most impactful when it is clearly communicated and deeply rooted in community partnership,” said Andrea Mellind Madrid, GMEC and GNPD Vice President for Corporate Services. “Through the Mangrove Adoption and Protection Program, we are not only restoring vital coastal ecosystems, but also empowering communities to become long-term stewards of the environment.”
The Mangrove Adoption and Protection Program reflects GMEC and GNPD’s commitment to environmental stewardship through long-term mangrove protection efforts rooted in collaboration with host communities across Bataan.
Covering multiple coastal sites, the initiative integrates science-based mangrove restoration with alternative livelihood opportunities for local residents, strengthening biodiversity, climate resilience, and community empowerment.
Since its implementation in 2023, the program has recorded strong mangrove seedling survival rates, surpassed income targets for community partners, and formalized collaborations with local government units, fisherfolk associations, and national agencies—establishing Project Baka1Bataan as a model for community-led coastal conservation.
