STO. TOMAS, Pampanga — Twenty-two families displaced by a fire in Golden Land, Purok 5, Barangay San Bartolome in January have received new homes from the local government of Sto. Tomas, in a turnover ceremony held on Friday, March 27.
The community housing project was completed in just two months through the initiative of Mayor John Sambo and with the support of the Sangguniang Bayan, allowing affected families to move into permanent shelters barely weeks after the blaze.
The project also received support from the Pampanga provincial government led by Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda and Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, who extended P500,000 in assistance after the funding was approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. Five of the 22 housing units were also personally donated by Philantropist Rodolfo “Tatay Bong” Pineda.
In recognition of their contribution, the Sto. Tomas municipal council passed a resolution commending Sambo and Mabalacat Councilor Marjorie Sambo for donating the land used for the housing site. The municipal government said it would also facilitate the titling of the homes in favor of each beneficiary family.
Barangay officials led by San Bartolome village chief Ramil Pangilinan were also cited for helping fast-track the project and ensuring continued assistance to residents from the time of the fire up to the turnover ceremony.
In a post on her Facebook page, Pampanga Board Member-elect Dr. Kaye Naguit underscored the importance of swift government response in times of crisis.
“This project shows that when leaders work together, families can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.”
For local officials, the housing project stands as a concrete response to disaster — not only restoring roofs over people’s heads, but also giving families a fresh start after tragedy. DP/ IORBITNEWS CONTRIBUTED PHOTOS
