Intensity 4 quake jolts Bulacan Thursday night

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – Residents went out of their houses after an intensity 4 earthquake jolted many parts of the province Thursday night.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that the epicentre of the earthquake was recorded in San Marcelino, Zambales at Magnitude 5.5.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, who instructed Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Liz Mungcal and Provincial Engineer Glen Reyes to asses if there was any damage, said that no casualty nor damage to buildings and infrastructures was reported.

Alvarado said that the tremor registered intensity 4 at the Earthquake Intensity Meter of the PDRRMO command center at around 10:27 Thursday night.

Many residents went out of their houses after several aftershocks were also felt.

He said that Mungcal has also been coordinating with engineers of the aging Angat dam if the earthquake has cause any effects on the 50​-​year​-​old structure, which according to PhiVolcs director Renato Solidum Jr., is sitting within the West Valley fault line.
No damage or negative effect was also reported, the PDRRMO said.

He said that the province, including capitol employees, are regularly conducting prayers to spare the province from natural calamities like earthquakes. He said that the PDRRMO is also regularly conducting earthquake drills and preparing for worst case scenario like the feared “Big One”. — Emil G. Gamos
