Angeles City celebrates World Teachers’ Day

ANGELES CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) in partnership of the local government, celebrated the World Teachers’ Day at the MarQuee Mall Activity​ ​Center, Thursday, October 5.

Aligned to the celebration’s theme “Gurong Pilipino, Kaakbay sa Progreso”, the program highlighted the different contributions of teachers worldwide.

DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Leilani S. Cunanan lauded the efforts of the teachers in supporting and helping the students to achieve their dreams.

“Our teachers are the pillars of education, and they deserve a day of rest and fun and it is a way of showing appreciation for all their hard work and efforts,” Cunanan said.

The World Teachers’ Month started last September 15 to October 5 where different activities were culminated.

For his part, Councilor Amos Rivera expressed his gratitude to the educators stating that “they are our heroes, they are one of the prime movers of the city towards progress.”

Recently, the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the Kapampangan language ordinance where it will be used as a medium of teaching to both public and private schools from Daycare to Grade 3 students in the city.

“The Kapampangan language is our identity, and it is fitting that the students learn our language by heart,” Rivera added.

Different performances using the Kapampangan language were shown through song, dance, and role play by the Angeleño teachers and the DepEd instructors.

October 5 was declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as the World Teachers’ Day in 1994. This is to recognize the hard work, dedication and sacrifice of the teachers.
