1,483 pregnant moms attend Buntis Congress in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — In a bid to create further awareness on safe motherhood and newborn care, the provincial government through the Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Pampanga yesterday conducted the annual “Buntis Congress” for pregnant mothers in this city and in Lubao town.

The Buntis Congress which was simultaneously held in this city and in Lubao town was attended by at least 1,483 pregnant mothers.

Provincial Health Officer II Maria Imelda M. Labrador-Ignacio, PHO officer-in-charge said it was centered on the advancement of information regarding maternal and infant care for pregnant women, and those planning to conceive babies.

She added that the pregnant mothers received P500 cash each and P741, 500 worth of ferrous sulfate and lingerie.

Estelita Ancheta, midwife IV from the Department of Health Regional Office 3 (DOH-RO3) said there is a need to continuously educate mothers and other women on the importance of health while they are pregnant, and how to care for their infants and children to avoid maternal and infant mortality.

She also stressed the importance of pre-natal check-up, birth plan, danger signs of pregnancy, facility-based delivery and postpartum care to abreast the pregnant moms of the situation of bearing a child.

She also underscored the danger of teenage pregnancy especially now that it is rampant among the youth.

The midwife also provided them lectures on breastfeeding, symptoms of risks during pregnancy, and how to avoid them.

It was learned from Ma. Elizabeth Capuli, Philhealth’s chief social insurance officer that the Maternal Package will help the expectant mothers in their pre-natal expenses and during the delivery period that might need a huge amount in an emergency situation.
