Bulakenyos as well as the local government officials and media persons in this province thanked Senators Bam Aquino and Sherwin Gatchalian for pushing the declaration of August 30 of every year as “National Press Freedom Day”.
The Bulacan people and media persons said the bills filed recently by Aquino and Gatchalian are a good move because the contributions of Marcelo H. Del Pilar, the country’s great propagandist, a lawyer, journalist and a free mason known as Plaridel is hard to ignore.
“All Filipinos in the country must celebrate August 30 every year as “National Press Freedom Day”. And hopefully it will be approved soon or before the celebration of the 169th birth anniversary of Plaridel next year,” Erick Silverio, Bulacan Press Club president said.
He hopes as well as the local officials in Bulacan headed by Acting Governor Daniel Fernando that the senate will immediately pass it on their hearing and optimistic that eventually President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will sign an executive order declaring the date as Philippine Press Freedom Day.
“We are very thankful to the two senators who gave their effort to help and passed the bill in the senate and matagal na natin ito pinapakiusap sa Pangulo,” Fernando said.
