LCP condemns Davao City bombing

The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) led by Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan has condemned the recent terrorist attack at the Davao City’s night market.

In a statement issued Sunday, the LCP said, “We stand united in grief, outrage and resolve to defend not only the city of Davao but also all cities and, with the cooperation of the League of Provinces and League of Municipalities, all other areas of the country.”

The LCP also enjoined the nation in praying for the victims and extended their sympathies to the victim’s relatives.

“We join the entire nation in prayer for those whose lives were taken away senselessly and for families left behind grief stricken. We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims’ relatives and pray for the immediate recovery of those wounded and for the safety and well being of everyone in Davao and the whole nation,” the LCP said.

The LCP also called on the Filipino people “to support the government during this time of lawlessness.”

“We call on our fellow kababayans to work on promoting peace and to defend our democracy against threats from extremist and other lawless elements,” the LCP said.

The statement was also signed by LCP chairperson and Taguig City Mayor Maria Laarni Lopez-Cayetano and, LCP secretary general and Balanga City Mayor Francis Anthony Garcia.

On Friday night, a bomb exploded at the Davao City night market, killing 14 people and leaving more than 60 others injured. Local terrorist group Abu Sayaff has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
