Kalayaan Islands sentries get donations

Soldiers belonging to the Western Command Armed Forces of the Philippines – the formation of the AFP tasked with protecting the West Philippine Sea – arrived on campus to pick up goods donated by UP Clark students and Pampanga residents.

They were greeted and assisted by the UP Clark students and staff in organizing and loading the donated goods.

After accounting for all goods, and exchanging pleasantries with the UP Clark community, the soldiers returned to Camp Aguinaldo to further process the donations.

The pick-up concluded Frontliner’s Operation Ligtas Kalayaan, a donation drive intended to help re-supply the country’s outposts in the Kalayaan Islands Group (KIG). These outposts are crucial for the hundreds of Filipino fisher folk who rely on them for protection from both bad weather and Chinese harassment.

The donations will be processed and held in Camp Aguinaldo before being loaded on a C-130 cargo plane bound for Palawan. From there, they will be distributed among the Philippines’ 9 outposts in the Kalayaan Islands Group.
