CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — An undercover policeman was shot dead by an alleged drug addict during the exchange of gunfire at Alveo relocation at Barangay Lalangan, Plaridel, Bulacan shortly before midnight Friday.
Police Corporal Romie Tamaliwan, detailed at the Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Bulacan Provincial Police Office (PIB-BPPO), succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. according to sketchy police report reaching here.
Police identified the suspect as Nesty Nacino, allegedly a drug dependent who is out on bail for illegal drug offenses.
Tamaliwan responded to a distress call from residents in the community regarding the presence of an unidentified armed man who was threatening every one of harm. He tried to pacify the suspect but was shot at point-blank range using a 12-gauge shotgun.
Sensing danger, Barangay Lalangan chairman Danilo Tayao sought the help of higher police headquarters sending a team of Special Weapons and Tactics to the area.
Nacino, police said lobbed a hand grenade to members of SWAT team when noticed approaching the suspect position. The grenade did not explode.
The suspect tried to escape but he was pursued by lawmen. Exchange of gunfire ensued on the process killing him on the spot.
Police recovered the shotgun and hand grenade at the scene of encounter.
