1,400 runners join BJMP, SM mall charity run

BULACAN- Some 1,400 running enthusiasts trooped to Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s Fun Run in partnership with SM mall held recently at SM City Marilao.

BJMP’s Fun Run is a fund raising campaign of the Bureau in celebration of the National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) .
With an aim to rehabilitate and transform Persons Deprive of Liberty (PDL) into normal and responsible citizens, all proceeds will be donated for the training of local inmates for the many livelihood programs of the Bureau.

These programs are designed to usher smooth transition once inmates are release from jail.

Participants of the 5K run included families and jail officers from Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Nueva Ecija and Bataan as well as employees of major sponsors like SM City Marilao and Smart.

During the race, runners were doused in vibrant colors at every one-kilometer passage. This encourage runners to finish the race and create their own palette and happiest hue. “We are pleased to be able to support this worthy cause” shares SM City Marilao Mall Manager Engr. Emmanuel Gatmaitan.

SM City Marilao Assistant Mall Manager Engr. Janette Aguilera also shares that the mall has always been a partner of BJMP in their fun run activities for the past two years.

Last August, SM City Marilao was recognized by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology during the 28th anniversary celebration held in San Fernando, Pampanga. Under the Department of the Interior and Local Government of Region III, BJMP presented the plaque of recognition to SM City Marilao for supporting the cause of the Bureau towards the improvement of jail management programs.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s Fun Run celebration is in pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 551 series of 1995, which aims to recognize and value the dignity of every PDL and to guarantee full respect for human rights.
