DILG pitches Constitutional Reform to Zambales stakeholders

IBA, Zambales — Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) pitched Wednesday the proposed “surgical provisions” under Constitutional Reform (CoRe) to stakeholders in Zambales.

“The proposed CoRe in the country would meet the current challenges and needs of the present generation,” DILG Provincial Director Armi Bactad said.

“We’ve been using the 1987 Constitution and there have been many changes and needs in the present generation that the Constitution can’t address anymore so we are advocating for CoRe which is beneficial especially for the youth,” she stressed.

Bactad urged campus journalist-attendees to take part in the national government’s campaign in amending the Constitution.

“What we want from the younger generation and media practitioners is to spread to their relatives the benefits of reforming our Constitution so we could all be well-informed on how this would affect us and the next generation after us,” Bactad furthered.

For her part, Zambales Board Member Carolyn Fariñas discussed how the proposed revisions would address regional income inequality by reconstructing the Internal Revenue Allotment sharing and creating the Regional Development Authorities that would replace the current Regional Development Councils.

She encouraged the youth sector to discuss CoRe within their family and friends so they could help the community understand the legal framework of the revised Constitution.

“Your parents might ask you (regarding CoRe) and I hope that through your parents, you might be able to relate what we all learned and let your parents relate to their friends, their friends relate to their boss, and so on. I hope we would be able to multiply ourselves before one another for all the betterment of Filipino people,” Fariñas said.

Activities in the roadshow include a Media Briefing, Townhall Meeting with local chief executives, CoRe Talk with the youth sector and the Balangayan 2019: CoRe Convention Rally that was attended by barangay officials.
