DAGUPAN CITY — Two more businesses here have donated cash to the city government to be used for the ongoing relief operations since the implementation of Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In its Facebook account, the Public Information Office (PIO) said Wednesday that the Magic Group of Companies (MGC), which operates department and grocery stores, contributed cash, goods, and food worth PHP4 million.
“The donation consists of PHP1 million cash, PHP1 million worth of relief goods, and PHP2 million worth of food for frontliners,” the PIO’s post reads.
It added the cash assistance was turned over to the city government on Tuesday, the relief goods will be distributed to the different barangays of the city, while the food assistance will be delivered to the frontliners of the city.
MGC’s donation is part of the PHP25-million response fund it allocated for the government, the frontliners, and to their employees.
In a statement posted by the company on its Facebook page, MGC chief executive officer Celia Lim said that of the total response fund, the PHP5 million has been earmarked for the relief package in the form of gift certificates that will be distributed to the firm’s employees and their families to purchase food and other basic needs at the start of April.
Lim said the company will also credit in advance half of the 13-month-pay of their employees before the end of March, and the other half shall follow at a later date to be announced.
Meanwhile, the PIO said the Star Plaza Hotel, Value Star Inn and New Star Commercial have also donated PHP500,000.
“The donation is their assistance to the city government’s effort to cushion the impact of the economic disruption caused by the Covid-19 outbreak,” the post added. (PNA)
