The $730 million Dubai Water Canal which is expected to attract 40 million visitors annually has finally opened to the public on Wednesday, November 9.
“The Dubai Water Canal is one of the most important tourism projects in the city, transforming the landscape and features of the emirate, which has established itself as a shining example for cities around the world,” according to Meraas Chairman Abdullah Al Habbai.
The 3.2-kilometer Dubai Water Canal is the final segment of the Dubai Creek extension that is connected to the Arabian Gulf via Al Safa, Al Wasl and Jumeirah 2. The canal will also connect the historic areas of Deira and Bur Dubai via Dubai Creek and Business Bay.
The reopening of the canal has finally revived the old Dubai Creek that in ancient times extend all the way to the Arabian Gulf.
Traders can also use the canal in transporting goods.
