The City Government of San Fernando, Pampanga and the Department of Trade and Industry conducted a disaster risk reduction training for micro, small and medium enterprises to strengthen the disaster resiliency of the business sector.
Participated by more than 60 local entrepreneurs, the event was the first business continuity planning for the MSMEs held in the city.
Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago emphasized the need to increase awareness among MSMEs to establish their own disaster resilience plans so they could bounce back quickly from calamities.
“We organize this event to equip MSMEs with knowledge, strategies, and capabilities of reducing risks and increasing resilience to natural disasters”, he said.
Through the collective effort of public and private partners, Santiago wants to make San Fernando safer and its businesses better protected against natural hazards.
He said that the city will work hand in hand with the local business community to find solutions that would help them respond, set recovery measures and maintain operations after a disaster strikes.
Outputs from the workshop include business continuity planning road maps for MSMEs, where they identified their business’ critical service and product, and their business continuity strategies during disasters.
