Some 18 individuals were hurt when a fireworks factory exploded in Barangay Bundukan, Bocaue, Bulacan on Wednesday dawn.
Bocaue Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) Fire Marshal Senior Insp. Earl Mariano said the explosion occurred around 2:10am on Wednesday at the pyrotechnic warehouse of a certain Nenita Oprecio. The warehouse had been flattened to the ground by the blast and the succeeding fire.
Mariano said the explosion occurred due to a spark inside the warehouse which triggered the explosion. Several houses were also caught in the succeeding conflagration.
No one was reported dead.
Based on the investigation, it was learned that finished fireworks products are in the warehouse.
Witnesses said a sudden huge explosion ripped the windows and ceiling of adjacent residences.
The Bulacan Police Provincial Office (PPO) led by Directot PCol. Relly Arnedo, is currently investigating the explosion in the warehouse, which had been stocking pyrotechnics for the upcoming yuletide season which is coming in the next six months.
Arnedo said the warehouse is operating illegally in the said area.
The Bocaue BFP declared fireout at around 5 in the morning while those hurt were given immediate medical assistance.
