LUBAO, Pampanga–The local disaster risk reduction and management council here is sprucing up its capabilities in disaster preparedness.
This was gleaned as members of the Lubao Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LDRRMC) coming from various departments of the municipal government attended a workshop on climate and disaster risk assessment for local government units at the Subic Bay Peninsular Hotel, Subic Bay Freeport Zone last February 8-10.
The delegation was spearheaded by Municipal Councilor Jay B. Montemayor, Municipal Local Government Officer Annette Gulapa and Lubao Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Edgar Dabu.
Facilitated by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Office 3, the workshop was aimed at identifying hazards and the level of exposure of each LGU.
The assessment was based on the recent disasters that have occurred in the concerned towns or cities.
Through the workshop, this LGU hopes to be able to weigh the possible impacts of the identified hazard and come up with feasible intervention to mitigate the effects of such disasters.
Among the attendees in the workshop were: Lovely Bautista (LDRRMO), Lavernie Musni (Municipal Engineer’s Office), Sheryll Bulilan (DILG), Jemmalyn Leoncio (Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office) and Annaliza Dampil (Office of the Municipal Agriculturist).
Mayor Pineda-Cayabyab constantly reminds official-members of the LDRRMC to continuously upgrade its disaster response and mitigation capabilities as the town is among the low-lying municipalities of Pampanga.
“The municipal government cannot be complacent with what we know and can do. We need to constantly learn new ideas to be always one step ahead of any disaster that may occur,” the mayor stressed. –Albert B. Lacanlale
