Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald Dela Rosa has apologized to the Korean communities in Pampanga and Central Luzon for the death of their fellow national.
Dela Rosa has also assured the safety of Koreans in Central Luzon.
“I would like to apologize for the death of your compatriot, Mr. Jee Ick Joo. From now on, I would like to assure everyone that the PNP with the support of the local government of Pampanga and the city of Angeles to secure each and everyone of you,” said Dela Rosa during a consultative meeting at the Royce Hotel in Clark on Wednesday.
“The Jee Ick Joo incident should be the last incident that victimized a Korean national and nothing more to follow,” he added which elicited applauses from the Koreans in the crowd.
Joo was allegedly kidnapped from his home in Angeles City on October 2016 and was later killed inside Camp Crame in Quezon City.
To avoid the same crime, Dela Rosa has requested for the cooperation of the local Korean community.
“Any harassment or any illegal activity, or any crime being committed by the police should be reported to us immediately,” he said.
The consultative meeting was attended by representatives from the PNP, the provincial government and the Korean community in Central Luzon.
Before meeting with the Korean community, Dela Rosa met with Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Kim Jae-shin, Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda, Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and other police officials.
For his part, Kim thanked the PNP for its actions on Jee’s case.
