Tito Sen wants ‘drug-resistant’ Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Senator Vicento ‘Tito’ Sotto wants a “drug-resistant” Pampanga and a “drug-resistant” Philippines.

But the senator said it is impossible to achieve a drug-free country.

Sotto has attended the recent Action Planning on Anti-Illegal Drug Programs for Barangays attended by Mayors, chiefs of police and the 505 barangay captains held at Kingsborough International Convention Center yesterday.

“What we can hope for is a drug-resistant Philippines. Mahirap na yung drug-free Philippines pero yung drug-resistant Philippines pwede. The day we stop buying is the day they stop selling. Kung walang gagamit ng droga, walang magbebenta. Kaya dito sa Pampanga, I wish for a drug resistant Pampanga,” Sotto said.

During the event, the senator also lauded the efforts of the provincial government headed by Gov. Lilia ‘Nanay’ Pineda in bringing awareness to the Kapampangans with regards to the anti-illegal drug campaign of the government.

The senator said awareness programs and information dissemination are important in the prevention aspect of the fight against illegal drugs.

“There are four aspects in the fight against illegal drugs: enforcement, prosecution, prevention and rehabilitation. If one of those aspects is missing, our fight against illegal drugs won’t succeed. The activity of Pampanga today is part of the awareness program. This is the most important in the prevention aspect.”

It can be noted the governor tapped the 5,050 barangay officials, bantay bayan members, barangay health workers and nanay community workers to help in the province’s fight against illegal drugs and bring awareness in their respective communities.

The senator also congratulated the governor, regional officers in their continuing fight against illegal drugs resulting to the dismantling of shabu laboratories in the province.

“Dito sa Pampanga napakaraming nadismantle, napakaraming intelligence information ang nakuha ng inyong regional officers, PNP, PDEA sapagkat ang Pampanga is on the top 3 regions with the most number of shabu laboratories na nadismantle,” Sotto said.

The senator also assured the governor that he will help in strengthening the rehabilitation program of the province in 2018.
